ARTICLES

Popular Article:
The Ecology of Tikal and the Surrounding Peten Region
This article is about spectacular natural scenery and other attractions for Eco-tourism in Guatemala. Mainly in the Tikal city, located in Peten it is a mountainous regions, a lot of fauna. "The Peten is a huge, mostly lowland region (there are few sections with elevations greater than 500 to 600 meters, 1600 to 2000 ft) which, owing to several factors, until recently held only a small human population and, as a result, has retained much of its original forest cover".

Peered Review Article:
This article is about the National birth of Guatemala, This small and beautiful birth  el quetzal is one of the main animals en danger of extinction. In the very old times our ancestors had el quetzal as a simbol of freedom. Also in for our ancestors the Q'uq' (el Quetzal) in many indigenous languages is know as the birth of the life an the birth of the death. Besides all of that I want to ad that there are stories written about this birth.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion these articles are kind of similar because both talk about eco-turism in Guatemala. Guatemala have many diversity of ecology, but as I find in the peered review article is that the "Guatemala has 660 species of birds" so this make flora and fauna diversity. Why I am interesting on it because where I live wildlife are endangered. I would like to know more about the ecosystem of those kind of species.

Lab 3 (Questions)

ECOLOGY CLASS

What are you excited about learning in your tropical ecology class?
I am interesting about biome in Guatemala, and know what is the relationship between plants and animals. Have a better understand about our planet, for example: why in the tropical region have 12 hours of sun and 12 hours of night?.

What is one of the main environmental issues your community Experiences?
The main environmental issue that San Miguel Chicaj, Baja Verapaz is facing is deforestation. Since I am out of my community I realized that people should work on reforestation areas because there are many places that still have a very high type of soil, and where we can plant some trees. San Miguel Chicaj was an area with a dry and wet forest through the years people, and companies have been deforesting large forests. Now the population are complaining because of the climate change, Why?most of them are agriculture's and harvesting activities are declining.

What things have you learned thus far to help improve the environmental conditions of your community?
I have been taken couple classes that has topics related to reforestation such as how to prepare a site preparation, soil interaction, composting styles and forest measurement. These topics I already put it into practice in order to increase my knowledge about reforestation. I am planning to have a workshop with my community about composting style, so people can know how to have a better soil, and how a seed can germinate with all the organic materials that contribute. The result of the workshop will be that people can grow their own food with a good fertilizer.
